kamalanetra hung
Kamalanetra Hung (b. 1978, Caracas, VEN) is a self-taught new media and performance artist blending science, technology, and creative expression. Child to a Venezuelan mother and Chinese father. Before turning to art, she completed studies in engineering and natural sciences. Based in Cologne, she explores performance and electro-pop under the artist name Alexis C. Johnson (2015–17), with collective presentations at ZKM, Schwules Museum, and Weltmuseum Wien.
From 2017–19, she engaged in art-based research within open science, highlighting diversity at global conferences, including Tech4Dev, IGF UN, and OpenCon. Her work unfolds in alternative spaces, for example Pachamama, an immersive 3D dance piece on environmental compassion, debuting in Stadtteilbüro Kalk Nord (2021) and later presented at the historic Harnack Haus in Berlin (2023).
Recent works include What is in Me (2024), inspired by Radha’s devotion (FrauenMuseum Bonn), Let Go (2024), a fluid particle simulation evoking the Sea of Samsara, and The Jewel Jellyfish Collection (2023–24), exploring bioluminescence, symbolising the ability to perceive light from within.
